Registration deadline: 25 Oct 2019
Starting date: 04 Nov 2019
Ending date: 13 Dec 2019

Local communities, as the recipients of aid, remain the focus and most visible resource to aid workers throughout the cycle of emergency onset, relief, and recovery. The Community Participation and Mobilization in Emergency Response course will provide students with an advanced knowledge of community structures, participatory models of intervention and the technical requirements and skills necessary to provide aid and services in humanitarian emergencies. Participants will learn that in every stage, aid workers must establish a relationship with the local communities and work within, not outside, of them.

Students will be exposed to skills and best practices for cooperating with and working alongside communities affected by crises — whether when negotiating with national authorities; building or rehabilitating basic infrastructure, or providing life-sustaining services.

This course is required for the IDOHA module of the MIHA. Students can take each of our short courses for academic credit toward a Master of Arts in International Humanitarian Action (MIHA) degree, or they can participate in the course without receiving academic credit.
